Billboard Philippines names key executives, ahead of its debut
(GMA News) “Billboard Philippines” is coming to the Philippines and it’s just named some of its primary key players ahead of its public debut.

At a press conference on Thursday, Billboard announced the onboarding of Bret Jackson as its editor-in-chief, Francis Reyes as its editor-at-large, Paolo Valenciano as its executive producer, and Anton Molina as its podcast producer.

Bret is a co-founder of music label Paraisla and the production house 7640. From the US, he relocated to Dumaguete at age 13 and explored OPM through the different regions of the country.

“Hearing their stories really instilled in me a relentless feeling to want to do more for the people and places I loved. This led to becoming a full-time student of the Filipino music industry,” he narrates.

(CNN Philippines) Metro Manila — Lawmakers ended their two-month break on Monday to gather in their respective chambers and open the second regular session of the 19th Congress.

Leaders of both chambers welcomed back their colleagues and are expected to present their achievements in the first regular session, as well as lay out priorities for the second session.

A concurrent resolution will be also passed stating that both the Senate and the House of Representatives are ready for a joint session.

After this, senators will head to the Batasang Pambansa to convene with congressmen and hear President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s second state of the nation address in the afternoon.

Egay intensifies into severe tropical storm
(GMA News) Egay (international name: Doksuri) has intensified into a severe tropical storm on Sunday morning, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

According to PAGASA’s 11 a.m. bulletin, the center of the tropical cyclone was last estimated at 610 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte .

It was heading westward at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour (km/h) with maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 115 km/h, and a central pressure of 985 hPa.

Egay also has strong to storm-force winds that extend outwards up to 460 km from the center.

In anticipation of the arrival of strong breeze to near-gale conditions directly caused by Egay, PAGASA said wind signals may be raised in some areas in Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas within the day.

“Current forecast scenario shows that the highest wind signal that may be hoisted will be Wind Signal No. 3 or 4, potentially over Extreme Northern Luzon. However, should a southward shift in the track occur, higher wind signals may be hoisted,” PAGASA added… Read More

(ManilaTimes) Hidilyn Diaz, the lone Filipino Olympic gold medalist, has graduated from college with a degree in Business Administration major in Management at the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde.

Diaz announced her graduation over her social media pages on Saturday, July 22, posting pictures of her during the graduation ceremony.

“I never thought that this would be a tear-jerker. Not an ordinary day,” wrote Diaz in Filipino.

“It took 16 years, I’ve shifted courses, made school transfers, filed LOA (leave of absence) because it’s hard to juggle my weightlifting duties and studies.”

Diaz, 32, said she didn’t know she could pull this off considering how busy she had been preparing for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Now that she’s able to prove that it’s possible, Diaz, the only Filipino athlete with a gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Games, Olympics, and World Championships, said that fellow student-athletes and even those who stopped schooling can finish their education as well… Read More

(PhilStar) MANILA, Philippines — Months after posts calling for Mobile Legends Bang Bang players, RRQ Philippines has confirmed its participation in the coming Mobile Legends Development League Philippines (MDL PH) Season 2 with a video post on Facebook.

The newly formed team will be known as “RRQ Kaita” and is composed of Janus “y4nusu” Badando, “Karl” Devosora, Kim “Daiki” Sebanes, Justin “SHOCKER” Guanga, Edferdz “Ferdz” Fernandez and will be led by coach Kurt “Superkurt” Recto and captain Kenneth “Kenji” Villa, a veteran of the MPL who has won both a Southeast Asian Games gold medal and an MPL title.

Philippines: Manila closely monitoring Chinese threat to invade Taiwan
(RFA) Manila monitors and plans every day for the possibility of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, the new Philippine defense secretary said Thursday.

Taiwan is a key economic partner of the Philippines and hosts around 150,000 Filipinos, whose safety would be in jeopardy should China invade the island, which it considers a renegade province.

“That is something we continue to monitor daily, and hopefully, the engagements bilaterally between the United States and China leads to the diffusion of tensions in that theater,” Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro told reporters.

“First and foremost, we really have to make an assessment whether such [an attack] is likely or not. Nonetheless, we continue to plan on all contingencies, not merely any flashpoint between China and Taiwan, but any contingency within the theater.”
