Please visit www.philippineairlines.com and click the “Flight Status” icon on the main page, and then fill in the flight number (without the “PR” or “2P” designation, just the number itself) and date of departure to check the latest update.

US President Biden seeks closer ties with Philippines after ‘rocky’ past
(SunStar) NEW YORK — President Joe Biden pledged on Thursday in his first face-to-face meeting with new Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to work to strengthen relations with the Pacific nation after what he said had been some “rocky times” in the past.

Meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, the leaders discussed tensions in the South China Sea, the long-standing security relationship between the United States and the Philippines, stresses to the global economy and food security caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and other issues.

Biden also noted that the Philippines was among US allies to quickly condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“We’ve had some rocky times, but the fact is it’s a critical, critical relationship, from our perspective. I hope you feel the same way,” Biden said at the start of the meeting.

The relationship hit bumps during the presidency of Marcos’ predecessor, Rodrigo Duterte… Read More

P&G ready to work with PH on digitalization, nation-building efforts — Palace
(Manila Bulletin) NEW YORK, USA — Leading fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) entity Procter & Gamble (P&G) has expressed willingness to work with the Philippine government in its nation-building efforts, particularly in digitalization, Malacañang said.

This developed after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his economic team met P&G executives in New York City on Thursday, September 22 (New York time).

In a statement, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said that during their business meeting, P&G conveyed “strong confidence” in the Philippines and welcomed Marcos’ thrust to go full throttle in digitalization, beginning with government processes.

“P&G offered to take on the President’s thrust for the private sector to have a bigger participative role in nation-building,” she said.

“[It] offered their expertise in data mining and analytics, especially in the area of consumer trends and behavior,” she added.

The company likewise shared its plans in the Philippines.

“P&G further said they are open to work with [the] government in its initiatives for digitalization as well as improving the business environment to make for a more attractive investment destination,” Angeles said.

For his part, President Marcos hailed P&G for its long history in the Philippines and its leadership in the FMCG industry, saying its commitment to the Philippines sets the example for corporate citizenship.

“We applaud their continued commitment to our nation-building efforts as we work to improve the business environment in the country and implement the digitalization of public services,” Marcos wrote in a Facebook post.

OVP spox defends transfer of office to Mandaluyong: 'Hindi luho'
(CNN Philippines) Metro Manila — The spokesperson of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Tuesday said the transfer of the OVP to Mandaluyong is meant to help improve work efficiency, rebutting claims that the move is an unnecessary expenditure.

“‘Yan po ay hindi luho. Mas hinangad po namin ‘yung efficiency. Ang problema ho ay ‘yung iba, nagkaroon agad ng konklusyon na hindi naman kumpleto ang kanilang facts,” Reynold Munsayac said in a video statement.

[Translation: That’s not luxury. We preferred efficiency. The problem is some people arrived at a conclusion even when their facts were incomplete.]

The OVP, under Vice President Sara Duterte, is now located at Robinsons Cybergate Plaza, which is along EDSA corner Pioneer Street in Mandaluyong City. It was previously based in the Quezon City Reception House, but Munsayac said there were also OVP personnel during the previous administration who were working in the Ben-Lor Building in the same city… Read More

Marcos does not see a future without US

Marcos does not see a future without US
(BusinessWorld) PHILIPPINE President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. on Tuesday said the United States remains a key partner, adding that not having it as an ally is inconceivable.

“I cannot see the Philippines in the future without having the United States as a partner,” he told New York Stock Exchange chief commercial officer John Tuttle, based on a transcript sent by the presidential palace.

“Many of the drivers of our early economy were actually American corporations,” he added.

Mr. Marcos made the remark amid escalating competition between the US and China in the Indo-Pacific region.

“Many of the strongest corporate benefactors to the government and to the rest of society in the Philippines were coming from the United States,” he said.

Strengthening the Philippine-US alliance is “extremely necessary” as the world faces economic and geopolitical crises, Mr. Marcos said. “This is something that is central to our thinking when it comes to the economic planning for the Philippines.”

The president noted that when the Philippines is in a crisis, it always looks to the US. “The reason we have done that is that for the most part, we can say that the United States has not failed us.”

“We are driven together in many ways by forces that exist now in the world.”

Ex-President Rodrigo R. Duterte, his predecessor, led a foreign policy pivot to China away from western super powers such as the US. He terminated an unpopular visiting forces agreement with the US and often verbally assaulted top US officials, including ex-President Barack Obama, who have been critical of his war on drugs. ..
