(CNN Philippines) Metro Manila — Presidential daughter Sara Duterte withdrew her candidacy for Davao City mayor on Tuesday, while her father’s closest ally, vice presidential aspirant Senator Bong Go bared there may be changes in his plans for the 2022 elections.

Sara said she will be replaced by her brother Sebastian in the mayoralty race. Earlier in the day, Sebastian backed out of the vice mayoralty race. He nominated as his substitute candidate Atty. Melchor Quintain Jr., who was named as the new chief presidential legal counsel just a few weeks ago.

The Duterte siblings did not give any explanation for the switch.

Sara also did not say if she would be a substitute for any national candidate.

Goggles in lieu of face shield? – DOH

Goggles in lieu of face shield? – DOH
(CNN Philippines) Metro Manila — As experts finalize their recommendation on wearing of face shield in enclosed spaces, a Health official said the use of goggles as a layer of protection against COVID-19 is part of the conversation.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire was asked on Monday if officials are considering recommending the use of goggles and double face masks in lieu of face shields.

She said it is part of the talks between the DOH and health experts reevaluating evidence on protection offered by face shield. She also said goggles protect the eyes from droplets and aerosols.

“Iyan talaga ang direction ng paguusap. Primarily kaya natin minandate na ang face shields ay gamitin natin for us to protect our eyes because there are evidence to state na ang COVID-19 can also penetrate ang eyes natin at pwede tayo maimpeksyon,” she said in a media briefing…. Read More

MMDA: Truck ban suspension first to go if NCR traffic worsens

**Image Title**
(GMA News) The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will first lift the suspension of the truck ban before lifting the suspension of the number coding scheme when the traffic situation worsened.

According to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras”, MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said traffic congestion in the National Capital Region had yet to reach pre-pandemic levels.

“In the event lumala talaga traffic, uunahin muna namin ‘yung truck ban kasi ang truck ban suspended hanggang ngayon,” Abalos said on Super Radyo dzBB.

(In the even the traffic worsens, we will prioritize the truck ban, because the truck ban is suspended up until now.)

According to MMDA’s monitoring, the vehicles traversing EDSA this October already reached 398,000, which is 7,000 short of 405,000, the average number of vehicles during the pre-pandemic.

The MMDA acknowledged the increase in the number of vehicles in NCR’s roads. However, it still does not affect the traffic flow in parts of Metro Manila.

“Talagang dumami, talagang masyadong natuwa, natuwa ang lahat naglabasan. Medyo malayo pa naman sa pre-pandemic, which was 11 km/h. Ngayon ay 23km/h from Roxas Boulevard to Monumento,” Abalos said.

(The vehicles really multiplied, people got really excited to go out. [The traffic flow] is still far from the pre-pandemic, which was 11 km/h. Currently it is at 23km/h from Roxas Boulevard to Monumento.)… Read More

Apparently, Most Filipinos Want to Retire in Thailand and Canada

Apparently, Most Filipinos Want to Retire in Thailand and Canada
(Esquire Philippines) As it stands, retirement seems like a far away thought. But, like you, that doesn’t stop us from dreaming about what we’d be doing then and where we’d go to retire. Need ideas? A new study by Money.co.uk reveals where exactly Filipinos want to retire.

There are, of course, the most popular retirement destinations around the world like France, Canada, and Argentina. Turns out, however, most Filipinos are thinking of retiring to Thailand. It’s pretty surprising since Thailand is kind of similar to the Philippines with both being in the tropics, but the study shows Filipinos like Thailand for a retirement that’s full of adventure.

After Thailand, a lot of Filipinos also want to retire to Canada, Australia, Japan, and Portugal. Overall, Canada also seems to be popular with people from Asian countries.

“Canada was the number one choice for those hoping to retire abroad in Asia, with six countries searching for retirement in Canada the most,” researchers said. “While it might not be the cheapest place to retire, it is known for being a friendly, welcoming and safe destination, making it a popular choice for many. The country is also home to some of the most beautiful scenery and natural beauty spots in the world, meaning there are plenty of opportunities to tick-off items on a bucket list.”.. Read More
