55 new Delta cases found

55 new Delta cases found
(The Manila Times) FIFTY-FIVE more cases of the Covid-19 Delta variant have been detected, the Department of Health (DoH) said on Sunday.

Of this number, 37 are local cases –14 from Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), eight from Northern Mindanao, six from the National Capital Region, six from Central Luzon, two from Davao Region, and one from the Ilocos Region.

The DoH said that 17 are returning overseas Filipino and one case is being verified if it is a local or ROF case.

One of the patients died, all the others recovered.

The new cases brings the total Delta cases in the country to 119.

With the increased Delta cases, the Health department called on local government units (LGUs) “to immediately contain observed case increases through granular lockdowns and stronger Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Treat-Reintegrate (PDITR) implementation.”

“We call on both public and private sectors to ensure active case finding, aggressive contact tracing, immediate isolation or quarantine, and compliance to minimum public health standards in their respective localities and even workplaces,” it said in a statement… Read More

Targeted lockdowns sought amid Delta scare

Targeted lockdowns sought amid Delta scare
(BusinessWorld) HEALTH authorities urged local governments at the weekend to enforce targeted lockdowns instead of region-wide border closures to save the economy while trying to contain a more contagious Delta coronavirus variant.

“It’s very important for local government units to implement strict lockdowns in cities or provinces as necessary,” said Anna Lisa T. Ong-Lim, chief of the Infection and Tropical Disease Division of the Philippine General Hospital and a member of the Health department’s technical advisory group.

“Given the economic impact of imposing region-wide lockdowns, the response strategies are anchored on imposing localized or granular lockdowns,” she told a televised news briefing attended by President Rodrigo R. Duterte.

Ms. Ong-Lim also urged local governments to boost their disease surveillance and healthcare capacity amid the local transmission of the Delta variant from India.

“We need to work on the premise that every case that’s now detected is Delta so that we can act accordingly,” she said. “The strategy to manage a possible surge is to ensure that the healthcare system is actually ready regardless of the community quarantine classification.”

An overwhelmed healthcare system would make it difficult for cities to fight the virus, Edsel T. Salvana, director of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the National Institutes of Health-University of the Philippines Manila, told the same briefing.

“We know Delta is more transmissible, it’s potentially deadlier and can spread faster,” he said. “But it is beatable with our minimum health standards, face shields, face masks, physical distancing and of course, we have to vaccinate everyone.”

DoH reported 5,479 coronavirus infections on Sunday, bringing the total to 1.54 million. The death toll rose to 27,224 after 93 more patients died, while recoveries increased by 5,573 to 1.46 million, it said in a bulletin.

There were 54,262 active cases, 93.4% of which were mild, 1.2% were asymptomatic, 2.3% were severe, 1.63% were moderate and 1.4% were critical.

The agency said five duplicates had been removed from the tally, three of which were tagged as recoveries. Fifty recoveries were reclassified as deaths. Three laboratories failed to submit data on July 23.

Mr. Duterte last week approved a recommendation by an inter-agency task force to tighten quarantines in the National Capital Region (NCR) and other virus-hit areas until end-July. He also banned travelers from Indonesia and Malaysia.

Fifty-five more people got infected with the Delta coronavirus variant — said to be 60% more contagious than the Alpha variant from the United Kingdom — bringing the total to 119, the Department of Health (DoH) said on Sunday.

Thirty-seven were local patients, 17 were returning migrant Filipinos and one was still being verified, it said.

Fourteen of the 37 were in Southern Luzon, eight in Northern Mindanao, six each in the capital region and Central Luzon, two in the Davao Region and one in Ilocos

DoH said 94 more people got infected with the Alpha variant, bringing the total to 1,775. It added that 179 more people have been infected with the Beta variant from South Africa, bringing the total to 2,019. .. Read More

Duterte tightens quarantine over NCR because of Delta variant

Duterte tightens quarantine over NCR because of Delta variant
(BusinessWorld) President Rodrigo R. Duterte on Friday approved the recommendation of his pandemic task force to enforce stricter quarantine rules in Manila, the capital, and nearby cities amid the threat of the more contagious coronavirus variant that is ravaging Southeast Asian countries, according to the presidential palace.

The National Capital Region (NCR) would be placed under a general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions from July 23 to 31, Palace spokesman Herminio L. Roque, Jr. said in a statement.

“The same IATF rules would be observed when NCR was previously under GCQ with heightened restrictions,” Mr. Roque said.

Under GCQ status — the second most lenient of the four quarantine stages — only essential travel into and out of the capital region would be allowed. The seating capacities of several business establishments will also be reduced.

Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur in northern Philippines, and Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte in the southern part of the country will also be placed under the stricter version of GCQ, Mr. Roque said.

“As these areas will be placed under GCQ with heightened restrictions, children five years old and above will not be allowed to go to outdoor areas,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Roque said the Philippines will impose a five-day travel ban on Indonesia and Malaysia starting July 25 to prevent the spread of the Delta variant, Mr. Roque said.

The ban exempts Filipinos who are part of repatriation efforts or special commercial flights, he said… Read More

Metro Manila to reimpose longer curfew hours starting July 25 amid Delta variant threat

Metro Manila to reimpose longer curfew hours starting July 25 amid Delta variant threat
(CNN Philippines) Metro Manila — Longer curfew hours will again be enforced in Metro Manila amid the threat of the highly contagious Delta coronavirus variant, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Saturday.

Starting Sunday, July 25, cities in the National Capital Region will reimpose a 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. curfew, the MMDA announced in a statement.

The current curfew hours run from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m.

The MMDA said mayors agreed to adjust the curfew period due to rising COVID-19 cases, and to further contain the spread of the feared Delta variant.

“We need to limit the movement of the public through the imposition of longer curfew hours,” MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos said. “Since the Delta variant spreads exponentially, we should not let our guards down and implement necessary restrictions to contain the virus.”

Earlier in the day, the Department of Health announced there are now a total of 64 Delta variant cases in the country following the detection of 17 new infections.

Twelve of the additional cases were tagged as local cases, with nine having their listed address in Metro Manila… Read More

Lechon na LV o inspired by safari, bentang-benta sa Cebu
(PEP Philippines) Roasted animals from the Safari? These are lechon that were painted to look like a leopard and a tiger (left photo). Designs can be customized with dedications or shapes and lines to achieve a unique look.

Puwedeng gawing a la Incredible Hulk ang lechon.

“’Yung green lechon, emerald green. Pinaghalong pandan leaves and lemon grass,” nakangiting pagbabahagi ng may-ari.

Aniya, matagal na oras ang ginugugol nila sa pagkukulay at pagpipinta para maging mas makatotohanan… Read More
