(Interaksyon) For those thinking of renewing their Netflix subscription this month amid the rising cost of basic necessities, this might assuage your guilt.

The Philippines is the third-best country in the world and the best in Southeast Asia to have a Netflix subscription in terms of price and variety of content, according to UK-based price comparison service Uswitch.

Uswitch computed the streaming platform’s cost-per-title in each country by dividing the monthly subscription fee (based on the price of the premium Netflix tier) by the number of available titles on the platform.

Netflix users in the Philippines can choose from 6,425 titles for a monthly cost of P562.93 (€9.88)– the third cheapest in the world – making each movie and TV show cost about P0.085 (€0.0015).

(Inquirer Ph) MANILA, Philippines — The European Union (EU) has invited President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to visit Brussels, where the bloc’s headquarters is located.

European Council President Charles Michel, who was not able to attend Marcos Jr.’s inauguration last June 30, extended his invitation to the Philippines’ new top leader through a letter, according to a statement from the EU Delegation to the Philippines on Tuesday.

“I would, however, like to extend an invitation to you to come to Brussels at a mutually convenient time. We have much to discuss, from our bilateral relations, EU-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) ties, and wider foreign policy issues, to our support for the rules-based international order,” reads Michel’s letter.

The EU delegation also said Michel’s invitation was personally relayed by EU Ambassador to the Philippines Luc Véron to Marcos Jr. during the latter’s inauguration.

Véron represented Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in the presidential inauguration.

(SunStar) NEARLY nine in 10 areas in the Philippines are currently experiencing rise in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, with 57 areas being flagged by the Department of Health (DOH) for recording positive growth rates in the last two weeks.

In its latest national Covid-19 situationer report, the DOH said a large majority of the country’s provinces and cities saw continued case increases.

“National and all regions observe continued case increases in the recent weeks with 88 percent of provinces, HUCs (highly urbanized cities), and ICCs (independent component cities) across all island groups showing positive growth in cases,” said the DOH.

It noted how the average daily reported cases have gone up to 914 for the period of June 25 to July 1, from 599 for June 18 to 24.

“National case trend show continuous increase with seven-day average cases higher by 53 percent from the previous week,” said the DOH.

In particular, the health department flagged 57 areas in different parts of the country outside the National Capital Region (NCR) after recording positive one-week and two-week growth rates.

“There were 32 Luzon areas, 14 Visayas areas, and 11 Mindanao areas showing positive growth in cases in the recent one and two weeks,” said the DOH.

(Voice Of America) Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., son of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos, became the 17th president of the Philippines Thursday, successfully fulfilling his family’s mission to return to power 36 years after a people’s uprising toppled his father.

With more than 31 million votes, Bongbong – as he is popularly known – snatched the presidency in the country’s most consequential election in May.

Marcos, 64, ran on a campaign of national unity, which was an invitation to forget the atrocities of his father’s dictatorial regime while propagating a collective nostalgia for the supposed “golden era” of the country.

Critics say his victory can be attributed to decades-long historical revisionism efforts by the family and massive disinformation on social media platforms.
