There has been a wave of resignations in the Philippines with almost half (42%) of employees who have been at their current jobs for not more than two years and a significant 83% of employees looking for new career prospects.

Professional recruitment services firm, Michael Page Philippines, launched the ‘Talent Trends 2022 Report’, titled ‘The Great X’ which features prominent employment insights.

While salaries and bonuses are still top motivators for candidates, the survey shows a swing towards non-monetary benefits. A significant 73% of respondents in the Philippines are willing to forgo pay rise and/or promotion for better work-life balance, overall well-being, and happiness.

This is significant within commercial and strategic leadership roles that have a hand in scaling companies from the ground up. As economies improve, companies cannot underestimate the psychological effect merging “work” and “personal” life has had over the past two years. 69% of respondents want a hybrid work arrangement between working from home and the office.

In addition, 74% of professionals in the Philippines have asked or will consider asking about a company’s DE&I policy at interviews and 32% say the lack of clear DE&I commitment would stop them from actively pursuing a job opportunity.

The pandemic has also shifted priorities, 74% of candidates believe that mental health and well-being should play a part in employee performance and appraisals. Companies must create a positive culture in which employees at all levels feel appreciated.

(SunStar) NEARLY nine in 10 areas in the Philippines are currently experiencing rise in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, with 57 areas being flagged by the Department of Health (DOH) for recording positive growth rates in the last two weeks.

In its latest national Covid-19 situationer report, the DOH said a large majority of the country’s provinces and cities saw continued case increases.

“National and all regions observe continued case increases in the recent weeks with 88 percent of provinces, HUCs (highly urbanized cities), and ICCs (independent component cities) across all island groups showing positive growth in cases,” said the DOH.

It noted how the average daily reported cases have gone up to 914 for the period of June 25 to July 1, from 599 for June 18 to 24.

“National case trend show continuous increase with seven-day average cases higher by 53 percent from the previous week,” said the DOH.

In particular, the health department flagged 57 areas in different parts of the country outside the National Capital Region (NCR) after recording positive one-week and two-week growth rates.

“There were 32 Luzon areas, 14 Visayas areas, and 11 Mindanao areas showing positive growth in cases in the recent one and two weeks,” said the DOH.

(Voice Of America) Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., son of former dictator Ferdinand Marcos, became the 17th president of the Philippines Thursday, successfully fulfilling his family’s mission to return to power 36 years after a people’s uprising toppled his father.

With more than 31 million votes, Bongbong – as he is popularly known – snatched the presidency in the country’s most consequential election in May.

Marcos, 64, ran on a campaign of national unity, which was an invitation to forget the atrocities of his father’s dictatorial regime while propagating a collective nostalgia for the supposed “golden era” of the country.

Critics say his victory can be attributed to decades-long historical revisionism efforts by the family and massive disinformation on social media platforms.

President Rodrigo Duterte skipped the inauguration, held at the steps of the National Museum, where past presidents were also sworn in, but the two met inside the palace before the noon swearing in.

(Bulatlat) MANILA – While the media industry in the country faces hundreds of attacks in the past six years under outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, the situation is no different for student publications in their respective campuses nationwide.

In Duterte’s last few weeks as president, state forces arrested over 90 individuals in broad daylight during a cultivation activity held by farmers of Hacienda Tinang in Tarlac province. Among them were two journalists and nine campus journalists who covered the event.

Campus journalist Denisse Macalino never imagined having to lock arms with farmers, activists, and media workers in an initially peaceful gathering to form a blockade against policemen who dragged them to a shuttle one by one.

“Kaming media, kahit nagpalista kami under media, di pa rin nirecognize. … Pero dahil tingin nila (pulis) kaya nila [kami arestuhin], kinuha nila,” Macalino said.

(Even we, part of the media, were not recognized despite our names listed under the media… But because [the police] knew they could [arrest us], they took us.)
