Quarantine requirements for travelers eased

Quarantine requirements for travelers eased
(BusinessWorld) An inter-agency task force has cut the quarantine period for inbound travelers from countries with low to medium coronavirus infections.

Fully vaccinated travelers need only to undergo a five-day quarantine at a facility and five more days in their homes, presidential spokesman Herminio L. Roque, Jr. told a televised news briefing on Friday.

The requirements for unvaccinated people are higher at seven days at a facility and seven days at home, he added.

Foreign passengers must pre-book their own accommodations for a quarantine period of at least six days for the fully vaccinated, and at least eight days for unvaccinated ones.

The old requirement was a 10 to 14 days of quarantine inside a quarantine facility.

Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat said this was an “encouraging development for the country’s tourism industry.”.. Read More

Bato Dela Rosa to run for president in 2022

Bato Dela Rosa to run for president in 2022
(CNN Philippines) Metro Manila) — Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa is eyeing a higher government post in 2022.

Dela Rosa submitted to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) his certificate of candidacy (COC) for president on Friday — the last day of filing.

He will be the standard bearer of the ruling party PDP-Laban, and will run alongside fellow senator Bong Go, who filed his COC for the vice presidency on Saturday.

Asked about the surprise move, Dela Rosa said hiding his candidacy was merely a “strategy.”

“‘Yan ang diskarte, kasi kung maaga ka magbalita, titirahin ka talaga. Kaya tinatago natin,” Dela Rosa said in a speech after the filing, adding he has long been considered by the party to be its standard bearer for next year’s elections.

[Translation: That’s the strategy, because when you announce early, they’ll target you. That’s why we have been hiding it.]

The senator, however, said he would be willing to step aside if Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte eventually decides to run and would be adopted by the party… Read More

Leni, Isko trade barbs over Marcos issues

(GMA News) Vice President Leni Robredo and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno — both aspirants for the presidency in Eleksyon 2022 — exchanged words on Friday over issues involving the Marcoses and the martial law regime.

They were reportedly in talks during the previous months for a possible unity ticket that the opposition will field in next year’s elections.

However, Robredo admitted that one of the factors that affected her decision not to pursue the plan was Moreno’s reported remark that he admired the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos for being a visionary, even as he was opposed to his wrongdoings, according to Sandra Aguinaldo’s report on “24 Oras.”

“I don’t want to go into details sa akin kasi may mga non-negotiable and yung mga Marcoses non-negotiable yun sa akin,” Robredo said.

This sparked a rebuke from Moreno, who said, ““Bakit kelangan uminog ang mundo namin ngayon sa away ng Marcos at Aquino, sa away ng anak ni Marcos at mga anak at kasama ng yellow tards… pink na pala.”

“I don’t want to live in their past we deserve to live and change the future for the better,” he said during an event of his party Aksyon Demokratiko on Friday… Read More

BSP proposes 3% RRR on digital banks

BSP proposes 3% RRR on digital banks
(BusinessWorld) THE BANGKO Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is proposing to initially align the reserve requirements of digital banks with thrift lenders as both are targeting the same market and offer similar financial products.

Under a draft circular released by the BSP, digital banks will generally be subjected to the same standards and prudential requirements imposed on traditional lenders.

One of the key provisions is that digital banks will have to keep a reserve requirement ratio (RRR) of 3%, which is similar to the current level for thrift lenders. In comparison, the RRR of big banks and rural lenders is pegged at 12% and 2%, respectively.

“The policy proposal is to initially align the RRR of digital banks with those of thrift banks, considering the current similarity in their target markets and the type of financial services they offer,” BSP Assistant Governor Lyn I. Javier said in a Viber message.

Ms. Javier said the central bank may adjust the RRR for digital banks “as needed consistent with its price and financial stability objectives.”

Under the draft circular, digital banks will be required to comply with all prudential requirements set by the BSP for the conduct of business. These include requirements for corporate governance, risk management (particularly on information technology and cybersecurity), outsourcing, consumer protection, and anti-money laundering, among others… Read More

PH logs 9,055 new COVID-19 infections, active cases drop to 103,077
(CNN Philippines) Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 5) – The country logged 9,055 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the nationwide tally to 2,613,070.

This is the first time since August 10 that the daily case tally was below 10,000. But the Department of Health (DOH) said the relatively lower count is due to lower laboratory output last Sunday.

The latest DOH bulletin also showed active cases or people currently sick dropped to 103,077 – with 78.8% experiencing mild symptoms, 11.4% asymptomatic, 5.65% having moderate symptoms, 2.9% severe, and 1.2% in critical condition.

Meanwhile, 12,134 more patients recovered, raising the survivor count to 2,613,070.

The death toll stayed at 38,828 as no new fatalities were reported due to technical issues with the data repository system COVIDKaya.

The DOH also said 25 duplicates were removed from the total case count, including 21 are recoveries.

All laboratories were operational last Oct. 3, but seven laboratories failed to submit their reports on time. These laboratories contribute, on average, 1.9% of samples tested and 0.9% of positive cases… Read More
